Patricia H. Rushford's Newsletter

Books for all Seasons

Winter 2007

Dear Friends and Family,

Okay... It's New Year's Eve morning and I am already thinking of all the improvements I could make as the new year approaches. (Much too rapidly I might add.) I really want to make an effort to do my newsletters on a regular basis rather than the hit and miss thing I've had going lately.

I've had another way too busy year and one of my goals is to slack off a little. :-) I say that tongue in cheek as I am directing two writer's conferences. Just click on the links below and get the lowdown.

Family Matters:

We're totally enjoying our grandchildren and great granddaughter-when we get to see them, which is a couple of times a year. Caryl and Ben are still living in Grand Forks ND as are Corisa, Nick and Madeline Marie. We have to share a picture of our great granddaughter, who turned 1 this September. She's such a delightful baby. You can see why we're enthralled.

We went to ND in October and I went on to Texas in early November to teach a fiction class at YWAM. We spent Thanksgiving with David and Shelley in Couer d' Alene, ID and had a wonderful visit with Andrea, Kyrstin and Christopher. Hannah and Kyrstin are graduating in 2007 and we hope to get to both graduations.

One of the highlights of this year was meeting Ben, Caryl, Hannah, Jonathan, Christian and David and Andrea at Holden Village in the mountains near Lake Chelan, WA where we spent a week in May working to ready the village for summer. What a great time we had. The work was fun and the fellowship fantastic. I loved hanging out if this beautiful place. Here is a photo that will give you an idea of the conditions we had to endure. There is also a photo of the Caryl's kids (Christian, Jonny and Hannah). And here's Andrea playing captain of the Lady of the Lake on our boat trip to the Holden dock. David is the proud dad watching. Did I mention that you can't drive to Holden? At the dock we take a bus up a crazy switchback road into the mountains. We're all looking forward to going back. The hiking is as great as the scenery.

The Writing Life:

This past year I directed the Oregon Christian Writers' Summer Conference and I am directing the conference again in 2007.

I'm also pleased to announce that Writer's Weekend at the Beach is coming up soon--the last weekend in February. It's a great way to beat the winter doldrums. Writer's Weekend is a retreat and a respite and a gathering place for writers, poets and photojournalists of every level of experience. We're in our 16th year and many of our people come time after time. Remember, it's always nice at the beach. In February, I'll be attending Left Coast Crime in Seattle and from there going to Cancun. Looking forward to a relaxing and wonderful time with dear friends.

Book News:

The most exciting news is that I have completed three books in my new mystery series for kids, Max & Me Mysteries. All three are to be released in May of 2007 and wait until you see the covers. I'm excited about the new series, which takes place on a lovely lake in the mountains of Washington State. My Publisher for the series is Moody Press.

As always you can find my books on my website. Many of the still popular Jennie McGrady Mysteries are now out of print and my agent and I are hoping another publisher will pick them up. I continue to receive lots of letters from fans who want to see Jennie all grown up and that is a possibility.

The McAllister Files . . . are receiving rave reviews among mystery fans. I write the series with an Oregon State Police Detective, which lends authenticity to the events detailed in the investigations. The first is Secrets, Lies & Alibis, and the second, Deadfall. Our third, Terminal Nine came out in 2005. She Who Watches is the fourth in this popular police procedural series.

Here's what one reviewer had to say:

The authors have presented an excellent example of true police work. Through interviews, setting up tip lines, forensic analysis, evidence collection, and just plain hard work, they are finally able to focus in on the killer. The book's authentic feel must come not only from the talent of Patricia Rushford, who is the author of 40+ books, but it also from Harrison James (pen name) who has extensive experience in police work. I was really glad to learn that there will be more books in the series as I was truly sad to come to the end of this one. I wanted to know what Mac and Kevin were going to be investigating tomorrow morning AND I wanted to be there with them. Real life couldn't be more authentic than this new fiction.

The Angel Delaney Mysteries . . . Did you know that Angel Delaney was first introduced as a character in Silent Witness? (The Jennie McGrady mystery that was nominated for an Edgar Allen Poe Award.) Deadly Aim, Dying to Kill and As Good as Dead This is a good time to get all three as I have a three-for-one special.

"Angel Delaney finds herself playing detective in the middle of a multiple murder investigation. Dying to Kill weaves a delicious web of suspense, thrill, and intrigue--a mystery that will leave readers coming back for more."

Deadly Aim, and Deadly Aim have been printed in Dutch and the covers are beautiful. You'll love Angel, and Detective Callen Riley with the Oregon State Police. Several readers have asked how they could find a guy like him. I wish I knew. He's not only a great detective, he's sensitive, good looking, and he cooks.

Be sure to visit my website and sign up for my online newsletter. Also, feel free to forward my newsletter to friends or anyone you know who might be interested. Thanks. I pray your year will be filled with time to read your favorite books. Blessings,

 Patricia Rushford
