Personal Information

The essential details (and some not so) of my rather eclectic life. [top]

I was born in North Dakota. A farm girl at heart, I love the wide open spaces. I live in a rapidly growing metropolitan area. But I love going to the beach to write and get away from life's stresses.

Having been married 45 years to my husband, Ron, I have two grown children, seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter. I earned a nursing degree in 1972 and a masters degree in counseling in 1992. My philosophy is that you never grow too old to learn new things--or take on a new career. Speaking of careers- at the ripe young age of 37, I began my writing career.

I began by writing poetry--a desperate attempt to maintain my sanity through my super-mom era. Once I outgrew the foolish idea I could be all things to all people, I started to pursue the idea of writing more seriously.

I attended my first writer's conference in 1980 and was hooked. Two other friends, Lauraine Snelling and Ruby MacDonald, and I created a critique group and met faithfully every week to brainstorm and critique each other's work. In a little over a year, we were all selling writers and had book contracts. Since that time I have written over forty-five books. I hope you will take time to explore my web site telling more about my books.

Hobbies and Interests:

I'm a writer and almost everything I do is writing related. When I'm not writing I am researching my next book, or I'm speaking or teaching at a writer's conference or school.

I also love to play--something I'm quite good at. Since I live in the Northwest, I enjoy hiking and going for long walks. I also do a variety of crafts--quilting, knitting, crocheting, pottery, etc. I love to travel and often place my books in my favorite areas--like Florida.

Of course my very favorite thing in the world is being with my grandchildren Christopher (21), Corisa (21), Kyrstin (19), Hannah (19), Jonathan (17), Christian (13) and Andres (8). And my great graddaughter, Maddie (2)
